Richard began taking piano lessons in elementary school, a decision that many people have since come to regret. He received A.A., B.A. and Master of music degrees but they didn't take, as evidenced by his compositional style. He began decomposing late in life and has written in a variety of genres: solo piano, country/bluegrass, ambient, orchestral, and new age.
