After two decades in the music industry, mainly as the guitarist in Sunrise Avenue, Riku Rajamaa launched his long-awaited solo career. With a wide musical range and a childlike enthusiasm he is at last releasing original material.
Riku’s profound background in music making is an essential part of his creative process. Having the ability to play various instruments is an essential tool in his song-writing. It makes nuancing and trying out different artistic expressions possible, and contributes to a vast sonic landscape. Pieces of music that arise in the twilight zone between fiction and factual elements being served in a modern transatlantic singer songwriter-fashion. But even though Riku considers his multi-instrumentalism an asset, the devotion to his first and greatest instrumental love – the guitar – still remains. This is where he is the most comfortable and where ideas transform from vague melodies into songs. Playing is a lifestyle. – “It’s fun, and it should be fun! That’s how I think of playing. It can also be comforting and serious of course, but it stems from joy above all”, Riku says.
