Nothing is known about the life of Robert Ramsey except for his service to Trinity College as the organist from 1628 until 1644. The compositions attributed to him include early examples of English monody, motets, collects and English church music. "What tears, dear Prince," "Te Deum," "Jubilate," and "O come, let us sing unto the Lord" are examples of his works in different forms. "What tears" was a song composed with a basso continuo in the form of a consort which was also included in a larger collection similar to an early opera or oratorio ("Dialogues of Sorrow upon the Death of the Late Prince Henrie). The "Te Deum" and "Jubilate" employ lively rhythms, solo applications among the singers or instrumentalists, and harmonic experimentation. "O come" was scored as an anthem with impressive and sonorous melodies and incising rhythms and motifs. ~ Keith Johnson, Rovi
