Emerging from Birmingham in 2017, Rookie have infused the sound of modern indie rock with 80s-style alternative and pop music, creating a combination of cutting vocals, hard-hitting riffs & foot-stomping stage shows. The band, influenced by: <a href="spotify:artist:1kDGbuxWknIKx4FlgWxiSp" data-name="Nothing But Thieves">Nothing But Thieves</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:1GLtl8uqKmnyCWxHmw9tL4" data-name="The Kooks">The Kooks</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:45FqwUG4hTT6d39r2HUsUe" data-name="Sea Girls">Sea Girls</a> & <a href="spotify:artist:7oPftvlwr6VrsViSDV7fJY" data-name="Green Day">Green Day</a>, have established a loyal fan base and secured their place within the UK indie rock scene.
Current guitarist, Tom Owen, met lead singer Joe Webster at a Rookie gig in 2018, after watching his mate perform in the support act. Owen had one too many and approached Webster after the gig; they got chatting and hit it off. On a whim, Webster asked Owen if he wanted to audition for the band. In early 2019, Owen joined the band with drummer Jimmy Hearn.
Since, the band have built their presence throughout the UK, releasing their first single as the current line up and playing alongside notable acts, including: <a href="spotify:artist:2wpJOPmf1TIOzrB9mzHifd" data-name="Scouting For Girls">Scouting For Girls</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:0dn62y7ayEAxcIcMcBWXIE" data-name="Thomas Headon">Thomas Headon</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:5dDVWJvBFaoMJrOfI6xnOt" data-name="The Covasettes">The Covasettes</a> & <a href="spotify:artist:2y3PEaAgTdxYfbyeSXORv8" data-name="overpass">overpass</a>.
Throughout the pandemic, Rookie continued to write new music and performed at multiple virtual festivals, including “Finsperry 2020,” supporting the NHS and Sucker Lockdown Week. In 2021, they released their latest single ‘<a href="spotify:album:6CRLZi6YA8ic80rmbJiqba" data-name="Criminally Underrated">Criminally Underrated</a>,’ which debuted on BBC Radio WM and has been described as having a “robust edge,” with “huge choruses” and “undeniable catchy riffs” - RGM.
With the return of live music, the band have brought back their accustomed raw energy to numerous sold out shows. Stick around for the ride...
