RUDEY BARNES hails from the fabled 5th Ward neighborhood in Houston, TX, with deep roots in Keachi, Louisiana. Born as the great nephew of The J.B.’s founding members Original Funky Diva Vicki Anderson and Bobby Byrd of James Brown & the Famous Flames – known as an iconic funk artist in his own right with classic hits “I Know You Got Soul” and “Hot Pants” – family has always been a big influence on young Rudey. Partly raised by his “Big Momma” who exposed young Rudey to gospel music, Rudey was soon leading the youth choir at his church. And naturally down the same paths into vocal training at the piano with Uncle Bobby and Aunt Vicki in Georgia.

Rudey has forged an esteemed career in music as lead and background vocalist to the R&B industry as artist “Von Cannon”, working with top artists, producers, and executives such as Destiny’s Child, Chris Brown, Trey Songz, Solange, Drake, Justin Bieber, Omarion, Ray-J, Miguel, Mathew Knowles, Jas Prince and others.

Teaming up with longtime friend pop, R&B, gospel producer Joaquin Bynum, Rudey and J created the alchemy that is the Rudey Barnes sound – neo funk soul, laced with contemporary sonic sweeteners to evoke something classic yet also modern.

With his new music, including lead singles “Don’t Stop The Groove” and “No Wonda”, Rudey Barnes is forging a fresh path in the rich legacy of funk and soul with infectious head-nodding grooves, hooks that pull you in close, and melancholy ambiance that wraps you in emotion.
