Ryan MacDonald is a songwriter from Elgin, a small town in Quebec’s rural Châteauguay Valley, now based in Montreal—with one foot still firmly planted in the valley. His music blends simple, raw instrumentation with stories of small-town life, love, and struggle, drawing from old Folk, Country, Old Time, Bluegrass and Americana traditions to keep the past alive while making something new. He started out playing rural breweries, small-town bars, and open mics around Montreal—spaces that shaped the stripped-down, honest energy he now brings to the stage with his band, The Ramblers.
