Saigon Soul Revival has been on a quest to reawaken the raw, enchanting sounds of 1960s and 70s Vietnam; a time when passionate music resonated in Saigon's streets and clubs with messages of love, hope and freedom. Amongst the turmoil of war, a rich cultural climate emerged, fusing popular genres of the day like rock, soul and bolero with Vietnamese music and lyrics. This blend of cultures almost vanished after the fall of Saigon in 1975. Four decades later, Saigon Soul Revival was born with the initial purpose of bringing these dormant sounds back to the stage. After numerous live performances over the years in Vietnam and abroad, the band developed their own sound with the release of their debut album “Họa Âm Xưa”. Including original compositions and enchanting reinterpretations, the album combines traditional Vietnamese elements with modern concepts, featuring pre ‘75 and current artists, all while remaining firmly rooted in the “nhạc vàng” tradition. After the success of "Hoa Am Xua“, which was nominated for Songlines Music Award 2021 and celebrated by Iggy Pop on BBC6, Saigon Soul Revival returns in 2024 with their 2nd album, "Mối Lương Duyên". Gliding through a sonic habitat of roaring horns, cascading guitar riffs, traditional instrumentation and seductive vocals, "Mối Lương Duyên" moves through concepts of love and loss, exploring how destiny can be forged through individual experience, while connecting the past with the ever-evolving future.
