S A M A E L awoke in an atomic bunker in the Swiss Alps on July 14th, 1988.
Brothers Vorphalack (guitar, vocals) and Xytraguptor (drums) began daily underground rehearsals, leading to their self-financed EP Medieval Prophecy.
After signing with Osmose Productions, they released Worship Him (1991), followed by Blood Ritual (1992) under Century Media.
Ceremony of Opposites (1994) marked a turning point, with Xy focusing on music and Vorph on lyrics. The band toured widely, releasing Rebellion (1995) and Passage (1996), where drum machines and keyboards forged their signature symphonic sound.
Eternal (1999), recorded at Mountain Studios in Montreux, led to global tours and their first DVD, Black Trip.
Then came Reign of Light (2004), Solar Soul (2007), and Above (2009), which revisited their early raw energy.
The Antigod EP (2010) introduced Lux Mundi (2011), closing over two decades of evolution.
In 2014, Xy composed Sedunum for the city of Sion, while welcoming Drop as bassist.
After touring the 20th anniversary of Ceremony of Opposites, they released Hegemony (2017) on Napalm Records.
Following Mak’s departure, Drop moved to guitar and Ales joined on bass. Their
Passage 25th anniversary tour led to Passage - Live (2024).
October 30th, 2025: the new song Black Matter Manifesto is out.
