Shoba, formerly known as ‘Shota,’ is a singer, producer, engineer, and DJ from Durban, South Africa, who has evolved his artistry since his early days with Shana. In 2007, he launched his label, Shota Music (now Shoba Music), producing for top artists like L’vovo, Theo Kgosinkwe, Kelly Khumalo, Professor, and Big Nuz, while collaborating with names like DJ Euphonik and Culoe De Song.
His 2012 solo album Afro-Rawmantic took dance floors by storm with hits like Sengikhathele ft. Euphonik and Abantu Bami ft. Professor. In 2015, Shoba released a dance album produced by local and international talents, including legend Timmy Regisford whose soulful house sound has greatly shaped the evolution of house music, followed by a UK tour, further cementing his legacy in the music scene.
Shortly before this release, Shoba’s youngest son, Mpilo, was diagnosed with bilateral retinoblastomas (eye cancer), prompting Shoba to step away from the spotlight for several years. During this time, he changed his name from ‘Shota’ to ‘Shoba’ due to ancestral, cultural, and traditional reasons, a journey triggered by his son’s illness.
After his hiatus, Shoba returned to the stage at the Black Coffee Madison Square Garden Show in New York in October 2023. By the summer of 2024, he began touring as a live performer/DJ across Europe, quickly gaining momentum. He now holds a residency at BeBeach in Dubai while performing at other shows worldwide!
