Sigrún Stella is an Icelandic/Canadian singer-songwriter. Her music is moody and intelligent, with strong folk and pop influences framing a powerful but sensitive voice.
Sigrún Stella has been nominated for vocalist of the year at “Hlustendaverðlaunin” (People’s Choice Awards) in Iceland where her song Sideways has made it to number one. Her music has achieved extensive radio play in Iceland as well as on the CBC and CKUA In Canada. Most recently, Sideways has been included on the Starbucks Acoustic Playlist which has garnered broad exposure and attention.
In addition to playing her own shows, Sigrún Stella has opened up for such artists as, Of Monsters and Men, Lay Low and Kinnie Starr. While writing her own music, Sigrún Stella is engaged in a number of collaborations including with UK artist Etherwood and Bulgarian/Canadian composer Todor Kobakov.
Music by Sigrún Stella has been placed in numerous feature films including The Saver, which has been nominated for Canadian film industry awards. Her songs also appear in the feature film Stay, The Cardinal (Canadian tv series), Jump Darling, and Sisterhood (Icelandic tv series). Sigrún Stella also works as a songwriter with Hospital Records, Songs in The Key of Knife, in the UK.
Sigrún Stella looks forward to releasing an album in Canada soon and playing at the Iceland Airwaves festival In Reykjavík this fall. Sigrun Stella is currently distributing her music with Sony Music.
