Space, in its unfathomable vastness, has since long been a subject of fascination for those who tilt their heads toward the skies. Full of awe despite its supposed desolation, it is here we place our hopes and dreams of a better future, of continued existence altogether.
And then we arrived.
It wasn’t all bad though. Just mostly. Presumably it had something to do with the number of humans, in the way that their numbers hadn’t dwindled at all. On the plus side, the cosmos sang. Reverberating majestically throughout the vermillion skies were the melodies of fuzzience fiction-rock, melodies that had truly found their home once taken into orbit and beyond. These notes were not so much travelling the Cosmos, as they had become it. Watching from the depths of space, from the places revealed only by ancient light and unknown compass, it was an especially beautiful sight. And sound. Even the wicked and destructive, humans and older beings still, had no choice but to accept the alluringly elegant chaos that swirled and sang all around.
The first travellers didn’t know any of this when they found the orb, when they took their first serendipitous strides into the Void. Why would they? Their craft, however, would in the deepest of futures become the backdrop upon which eternities unfolded. It would witness strange shines and Metagalactic beings and impossible crews and the luckiest of ships. It would be there when they died. When their sun died.
And then… there was a light.
