Inspired by the likes of Jorge Ben and Pat Thomas, Anglo-Brazilian, SOMA SOMA are renowned for their distinctive blend of afro-brazilian inspired sounds. Their winding compositions, soaring horns and engaging percussion deliver an emotionally vibrant experience.
Released in March 2022, the band’s second studio album ‘Água Viva’ has received appraisal in the UK and in Brazil and it has appeared on several radio shows including Giles Petterson, Cerys Matthews, Gideon Coe and Tom Robinson’s on BBC RADIO 6 as well as featured on Yolanda Brown and Sarah Ward’s shows on Jazz FM.
Soma Soma has supported the likes of Dele Sosimi & Electric Jalaba and performed at festivals including Shamabala’s legendary Barrio Africa, Wilderness’ Club House, Valley Fest & main stages including Tropical Pressure & Farm Fest.
"WOW" - Gilles Peterson.
"A group at the crossroads of genres and has a variety of influences, with some pieces being more afro-latino, others afrobeat, and others more bossa-fusion. It's a wicked mix. I find it lively, warm, and full of life and their music really is a place of musical blending." Le Sac à Son
"Brazilian percussion underpins Afrobeat brass lines: it's quite hard to wind anything new on those well-worn [but classic] spindles, but SS have a darn good go." The Bell Inn
"It is like being on holiday." BBC RADIO BRISTOL
