A super session arranged by BBC DJ <a href="spotify:artist:4fH73bVIwM24QrBqjTrhAA">Gilles Peterson</a> -- a champion of Brazilian music since his time as a pirate radio broadcaster -- Sonzeira involved legends, underrecognized veterans, and younger contemporary musicians alike. Aiming to present a modern-sounding album with allegiance to the country's many sounds, <a href="spotify:artist:4fH73bVIwM24QrBqjTrhAA">Peterson</a> went to Rio and, in January 2014, gathered the likes of <a href="spotify:artist:4cn4gMq0KXORHeYA45PcBi">Elza Soares</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:6P6IXsZWyS49AUbhGCvvLK">Naná Vasconcelos</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:5I0EPnV9gwrZYTbScjnaOk">Marcos Valle</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:19nFjml2GjS4LuL4NrDa7D">Ed Motta</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:0i1s9WcIu0PrUvHzALgofo">Seu Jorge</a>, and Alexandre Kassin. On Record Story Day 2014, the project was previewed via 7" with a radical interpretation of <a href="spotify:artist:5titkTztShEPJSoCL9TXF2">Freeez</a>'s 1981 Brit funk classic "Southern Freeez," fronted by <a href="spotify:artist:73jWUes5eWjL4BIOHpyNqn">Emanuelle Araújo</a>. The album, Brasil Bam Bam Bam, was released that June through <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Talkin%27+Loud%22">Talkin' Loud</a>/<a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Virgin+EMI%22">Virgin EMI</a>. It was the first release on <a href="spotify:artist:4fH73bVIwM24QrBqjTrhAA">Peterson</a>'s <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Talkin%27+Loud%22">Talkin' Loud</a> in over a decade. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi
