Sumie (Sandra Sumie Nagano) began recording her music at home in Gothenburg in 2008. Her debut album, Sumie, was released by Bella Union in 2013, followed by Lost in Light in 2017 and the EP Mirou in 2019.
She now returns in 2026 with a new album, Stardust In Valleys, released on June 12th via Anna von Hausswolff’s Pomperipossa imprint.
After profound changes in her health, Sumie returned to her craft with new eyes and a renewed sense of presence. These songs hold life a little closer, finding beauty in nature, memory, uncertainty and the fleeting nature of things.
The result of an intensive week of recording sessions with celebrated producer Filip Leyman, Stardust In Valleys is a deeply personal and revelatory work. Sumie’s experiences have changed the way she sees the world, but they have not slowed her down. Instead, they have opened new spaces for creativity and allowed her to look at life, nature and music with renewed wonder.
Tomorrow is a wilderness. Time is an unknowable distance. Yet there is beauty in not knowing. There is light to be found in every moment. Sumie embraces the present and allows both its fragility and its wonder to become part of the music.
