SURRENDER


Ottawa, Canada-based synth-pop duo <a href="spotify:artist:19Jf7BEtFkOmQcdxfarQgs" data-name="Surrender">Surrender</a> was formed in 2018 by multi-instrumentalist Dave Williams and vocalist Scott McCash.


Having played in numerous acts over the past twenty-plus years - including <a href="spotify:artist:5kGSmsg5cg5QSONfONUB4x" data-name="The Steve Adamyk Band">The Steve Adamyk Band</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:2JcxHOkkkQhwOnX6OO7hKi" data-name="The Creeps">The Creeps</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:0NDn9Vklp9GGCQOaWTu6Y2" data-name="Sedatives">Sedatives</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:5V8FS5skZ8uOBQCy3yYgri" data-name="Black Tower">Black Tower</a>, etc. - and together in <a href="spotify:artist:224aPU9MPHOx7iUNoKCpJZ" data-name="Crusades">Crusades</a> for the past ten, Surrender is the pair’s first foray into more traditional pop song-craft, inspired chiefly by the synth-driven acts of the early 80s UK and the moody alt-pop groups of the 90s.


Their first, self-titled LP was tracked at the members’ own studio in Ottawa and features guest appearances from Jolie Lindholm ( <a href="spotify:artist:280ynciDmBOnHdsAwrewis" data-name="The Darling Fire">The Darling Fire</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:4ERtgeBbWRkFzIz6LaFCeY" data-name="Dashboard Confessional">Dashboard Confessional</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:0SQ4i1F24xFOMovJCBlbVG" data-name="The Rocking Horse Winner">The Rocking Horse Winner</a> ) and <a href="spotify:artist:7xoTSPGUr9u8FWR4G8AWoS" data-name="Joseph Shabason">Joseph Shabason</a> ( <a href="spotify:artist:6g0mn3tzAds6aVeUYRsryU" data-name="The War On Drugs">The War On Drugs</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:22ojy4H4ZVpowC4lRRC8In" data-name="Destroyer">Destroyer</a> ). Surrender found a kindred spirit in collaborator Alex Gamble ( <a href="spotify:artist:73c0SZ3V9Wrevmu71mGS9g" data-name="Tasseomancy">Tasseomancy</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:05C3EDw4Rf0qMhrdjFKncL" data-name="Fucked Up">Fucked Up</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:3kzwYV3OCB010YfXMF0Avt" data-name="Alvvays">Alvvays</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:6A7uqgC2N1nUhrCLAytHxN" data-name="PUP">PUP</a> ) who produced/mixed at The Hive in Toronto.


Surrender’s debut LP will be released by Aztec Records ( NINA, <a href="spotify:artist:0jn6ofLtVkXpuH2mmV8J82" data-name="Sunglasses Kid">Sunglasses Kid</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:25bvQC4jyyFUce6jbzNlwb" data-name="Bright Light Bright Light">Bright Light Bright Light</a> ) in early 2020.
