Spencer “Taabu” Heaslip is a Polaris Music Prize & JUNO Award winning record producer & audio engineer.
His adolescent years consisted of performing, recording, producing, drum doubling in a Canadian Film Festival piece at the age of 11, and receiving nominations at 14 for the 2008 Hamilton Music Awards for “Drummer of the Year” and “Metal Recording of the Year.”
Taabu’s versatile passion flourished from basement Metal recordings into Electronic/Dance, Pop, Hip Hop and Reggae influenced production at the age of 18. His fascination with the integrity, clarity and depth of all music expanded as he explored the world of sound design.
Today, Taabu is well known for his production with 2oolman, of A Tribe Called Red, on Wishy Washy (feat. Omega Mighty) featured on 2019 Polaris Prize winning album, “13th Floor,” by Haviah Mighty. His musical versatility landed his production of “Flamenco (feat. Mala Rodríguez)” on 2022 JUNO winning album, “Stock Exchange,” by Haviah Mighty, in addition to collaborations with JUNO & Polaris Prize recognized Snotty Nose Rez Kids, Nemahsis, Shad, Omega Mighty, The Sorority, Jordan Alexander, Rochester and many others. Among the experience of opening for acts like Jazz Cartier, Shawn Hook, Down With Webster and playing alongside Isam B of Outlandish, Taabu is surely leaving his artistic and sonic fingerprint on the music industry.
