A band who personified the collision of dance and indie music in the mid-2000s was Teenager. An
art-rock project started by Nicholas Littlemore involving a range of contributors from Aiden Nemeth
(Wolfmother), Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth), Kim Moyes (The Presets) and most famously, Pip Brown
(Ladyhawke). Teenager released one album in 2007 titled Thirteen, toured Australia and the UK and
then just left, leaving a lot of people hanging for more.
Recorded across studios in Sydney, London, New York, Paris, and Los Angeles, the sound was characterised by a blend of rock elements with danceable beats and punk influences, creating a unique and energetic style. “New-wave sounds, kinky distortion and serrated-edge guitars.” Andrew Drever cited in The Age.
Partly due to Littlemore’s DIY ethos as well as its collaborators from Sonic Youth, Van She, Luke Steele, The Birthday Party, and The Presets and found cult status in the UK, US and Australia.
"Compared to Pnau, it's pretty raw," Littlemore says of Thirteen. "There's been a lot of processing and running things through different spaces, but it's all covered in this weird lo-fi haze."
In 2025 with over a decade of works written between friends from around the world, Littlemore has crafted a new body of work that's dynamic, eclectic, and true to Teenager's ideology.
