What the hell happened, or - more like - what didn’t? On the other side of a five year silence, Sweden’s The Amazing have returned. Formed fifteen years ago, the passage of time lingers over The Amazing - with a wealth of accolades and premiere live appearances under their belt, Christoffer Gunrup and Dungen’s Reine Fiske, are the first to describe themselves as introverted, shy of the spotlight and disinterested in the commercial aspects of publicity. Yet, it is clear that The Amazing’s strength is within this withdrawal - sinking away into the shadows, only to emerge with a new shining statement each time.
The music that blooms from The Amazing plays out in panoramic widescreen, drenched in atmosphere while never losing touch with a powerful pop-sensibility. Drummer Moussa Fadera and bassist Alexis Benson lay out grooves as nostalgic as they are infectious - driving their rhythm section across the sea of sparkling ambience keyboardist/guitarist Fredrik Swahn brings to the fold - melding with the creative vision of Gunrup and Fiske, the sound of The Amazing is as elegantly stunning as it is primal, holding both the air and the earth in its grasp.
