The Newark Public library served as the beginning for the Centuries. With lead singer, Gary Swangin working there as a part time employee in 1958, was caught singing on his break by coworker Salvatore Girgenti. This lead to the formation of the band and introduction to Cleopatra label owner, Tommy Falcone. Falcone brought them into the studio where they would record their first tune, which in turn, brought them a new member and their first performance. Swangin left the band in 1960 to focus on his education turning the band to focus on surf - losing lyrics but compensating with invention and melody. The Centuries had a short but successful career, when and why they broke up is unknown.
