Blending 80's nostalgia with modern electronic rock, pop and synthwave, The Co$t of Life is a solo project from Colorado-based songwriter and musician, Jason Irving. Music has always been a journey and sanctuary for Jason, blending influences from the pop tunes of the 80's, the dynamic sounds of Mutemath and The Midnight, ambient beats of electronica, and influence from his love of cinematic scores.
Raised in Morrison, Colorado, 80's pop music, the rock sounds of Green Day and Metallica, and 90's techno were the backdrop of his teenage years, inspiring him to pick up the guitar after watching a metal band perform at his high school talent show. He and some friends formed the pop-punk band Suburbia's Finest during high school, and would go on to share stages with national acts like Alkaline Trio, Fenix TX, Good Riddance, Five Iron Frenzy, and more.
Jason then put his musical ambitions on hold to pursue higher education, serve in the U.S. Army, and teach English in Tokyo. Upon his return to the U.S., Jason began a career in finance and started a family. While his musical ambitions had temporarily slowed, they had never truly faded. In 2022, the call of creativity returned, driving Jason to explore new technologies and musical styles, ultimately leading to the creation of The Co$t of Life - a reflection of Jason’s journey through music and life.
The Co$t of Life released a 6 song E.P., "Destination: Unknown" in late 2025 and plans to release a full length album in 2026.
