Carter Family meets Addams Family in the music of The Dead South, a four-piece band with worldwide appeal. Instantly identifiable by the bolo ties and custom brims that define their look, The Dead South have made their name with a sound that both reflects and defies country, alternative and bluegrass conventions. With classic themes of murder, disloyalty, ghosts and the like, The Dead South go from weepy to weird, wistful to wicked, all with a wink and a smile. A brotherhood first and foremost, The Dead South have reached global success with chart-topping, platinum and gold-certified albums, major awards and appearances on historic stages including The Ryman, Red Rocks, Glastonbury, Grand Ole Opry and more.
Chains & Stakes, their newest album, measures The Dead South’s growth as songwriters, storytellers and musicians. World-class artists and entertainers, The Dead South carry on the only way they know how: by being themselves. If Sugar & Joy questioned what Bluegrass is and isn’t, then Chains & Stakes takes a step beyond, unbothered by definition and playing by its own rules. Chains & Stakes, The Dead South’s fourth studio album, was recorded in Mexico City and produced by The Dead South and Grammy-winner Jimmy Nutt.
