When jazz vocalist <a href="spotify:artist:5HzryqCINeBjTh2KnPtWnu">Dwight Trible</a> asked <a href="spotify:artist:55Ox89YvyME4t8bYTIJsRu">Carlos Niño</a> (of <a href="spotify:artist:2EnWvZnkFr6EOWyc50kRYf">Ammoncontact</a> fame) to produce his 2003 album Love Is the Answer, <a href="spotify:artist:55Ox89YvyME4t8bYTIJsRu">Niño</a> soon realized that multi-instrumentalist <a href="spotify:artist:058MysjRT4fJ9XKLqXcizq">Dexter Story</a> could add a lot to the sound and arrangement of the record. The two worked so well together that they decided to call themselves the Life Force Trio (the third member was "floating"), and were soon working on their own songs. With contributions from <a href="spotify:artist:3tPndFYzl1nK2xeN9Z2aiU">Andres Renteria</a>, Fabian Ammon, <a href="spotify:artist:6SlLXvZvYEGnurxBUpUdri">Miguel Atwood-Ferguson</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:4PGpFpAKvwx09vRmHBNlDk">Gaby Hernandez</a>, and after just a few weeks of recording (in <a href="spotify:artist:55Ox89YvyME4t8bYTIJsRu">Niño</a>'s living room, no less), a rough outline for an album was completed.
