Hailing out from the outskirts of Barcelona, The Oldians emerged in the spring of 2001 with the aim of exploring the connections between early Jamaican music and jazz. Unlike the fast-paced "ska jazz" wave of the late '90s, the band embraced a more laid-back and rootsy approach, rooted in elegance and vintage sonorities. After an initial period of activity across Catalonia and collaborations with artists like Flight 404 and Victor Ruggiero (The Slackers), the project paused in 2003 due to personal and professional commitments.
In 2008, a reunion show in Madrid sparked a full revival of the band. Since then, The Oldians have released eight studio albums, an EP, a Japan-exclusive greatest hits compilation, several 7” singles, and have appeared on international compilations. Their refined sound has graced festivals such as Rudecat, Cruïlla de Cultures, Nowa Reggae, and many more, as well as leading clubs across Spain.
The group is known for its distinctive identity: a warm, analogue production aesthetic combined with a strong compositional voice. The “Oldians stamp” has become a mark of quality and artistic coherence within the international Jamaican jazz scene. Though their live performances are selective, they always deliver with sophistication and depth—whether in intimate venues or large festival stages.
