Tides Away is a Roanoke, Virginia band born out of passion for the exploration of unique sounds, an experimental spirit, and the DIY ethos. Combining the music of the past, such as 80s and 90s electronica and synthpop, with modern hard rock, metal, and electronic styles, Tides Away seeks above all to create something fresh.
Formed in 2017 when Matt Ayers and Michael MacCormack, two musicians with over a decade of experience playing in other bands together, decided to form a new project. Initially conceived as a studio endeavor, Tides Away soon turned to live performance. When playing live, Tides Away uses a patchwork of samples, live acoustic and electronic instrumentation, looping, and improvisation. The band hopes to reach new audiences and collaborate with likeminded artists.
