Belgian Toine Thys is bold and reckless musician, a central figure for saxophone and bass clarinet in Europe, with a warm tone (see the dedicated Spotify page). He is active as a leader of his own projects, and a much demanded sideman through Belgium, France, Africa, South-Korea and Canada.

After 10 years of concerts with his trio, and 2 albums with Hammond organist Arno Krijger ('The End of certainty' and 'Grizzly'), Toine Thys recorded his third album, ‘The Optimist’, in New York with some major names from Jazz and African music.
Two great musicians with whom the saxophonist often plays are there: the Franco-Senegalese guitarist Hervé Samb (Salif Keita, Lisa Simone) on electric/acoustic guitars and the Canadian drummer Karl Jannuska).
Enthusiastic and intrigued by the music and mix of personalities in this group, the American organist Sam Yahel, sparring partner of Joshua Redma and Norah Jones, joined the team and stepped into the repertoire with brio.
"By now saxophonist Toine Thys should be practically immortal. THE OPTIMIST is Toine's best album so far"" Ph. Baron, RTBF, 2016 ‼️
“The Optimist is soulful, lyrical and harmonically rich, not to mention the quality improvisations. /.../ This music is going to appeal to many jazz fans, especially those of us in the African continent.” Murimi Eston, the Nairobian
"D'un bonheur tranquille à l'allégresse, en passant par d'authentiques moments de frayeur et de rage", François Marinot, Jazz Magazine, ⭐⭐⭐⭐
