In 1991, Vange Leonel reached nationwide success and the top place on the charts throughout Brazil with "Noite Preta" (from her debut CD Vange). The song was chosen as the theme of the TV Globo soap opera Vamp. In the next year, she was awarded with the Sharp prize as the pop/rock revelation. An artist of multiple interests, Leonel has also been recognized as a writer in magazines devoted to lesbians, having launched in 1999 the book Lésbicas.
