Wax Doctor (Paul Saunders) emerged as a key figure in the early 90s UK jungle and drum and bass scene. Starting as a DJ in the late 80s, Paul juggled his passion for music with a promising football career before fully diving into production. He made his debut on Basement Records in 1992, becoming one of the pioneers of jungle techno, infusing his tracks with Detroit techno influences. Collaborating with notable producers like Alex Reece, Wax Doctor played a crucial role in shaping the atmospheric and melodic side of drum and bass, contributing to iconic labels like Metalheadz, Creative Wax, and R&S.

His sound evolved over time, drifting towards a more mellow and jazzy vibe, evident in his work with Talkin’ Loud. Tracks like "Kid Caprice" and "Atmospheric Funk" became classics, and his compilation album, Selected Works 94-96 (R&S, 1998), is a testament to his enduring influence on the genre. Although his second album for R&S remains unreleased, Wax Doctor's legacy in the drum and bass community is firmly cemented.
