During a course of counseling for recurrent depression in 2019, Wilko Wilkes made a life-changing commitment to his art.
He is now an award-winning alternative rapper, recording artist, music producer and live performer.
Known for his fast-paced live set and entertaining story-based songs, Wilko has gained widespread recognition, leading him to support acts like <a href="spotify:artist:5Va9LuEmaZxnbk1gMnjMD7" data-name="Arrested Development">Arrested Development</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:0ilsDGmlSM7nHPJgbOX0A9" data-name="Mr.B The Gentleman Rhymer">Mr.B The Gentleman Rhymer</a>.
In 2022, Wilko released his debut album, <a href="spotify:album:58suCR2jWKLyzHmoaNHBRX" data-name="Life Is Not A Rehearsal">Life Is Not A Rehearsal</a>, which was later awarded New Artist Spotlight’s Album of the Year.
In 2024 he won the Wordplay & Flow Award for Best Male Spoken Word Artist for his epic piece, Life (Tickertape Synaesthesia).
Wilko was a featured poet in BBC Contains Strong Language, the UK's biggest poetry and performance festival, as part of Bradford 2025: UK City of Culture.
As a mental health advocate and former Andy's Man Club facilitator, Wilko is deeply committed to his local community. He founded social enterprise Rap for Good, which empowers young people to engage with creative writing for positive change.
His work has brought him to stages and projects across Yorkshire, and he is a regional poet in the UK Young Poet Laureate programme led by National Literacy Trust and <a href="spotify:artist:5iVbHVIHDvjsao44sbzBzt" data-name="Simon Armitage">Simon Armitage</a>.
