Hailing from the world of film composition, Los Angeles based Will Bates is a visionary instrumental and experimental musician whose work transcends traditional genres. Known for pushing the boundaries of sound and composition, Will Bates creates immersive soundscapes that carry listeners on a journey through uncharted musical territories. With over three million streams on Spotify alone, Bates’ music has scored the lives of listeners worldwide for over a decade.
As the son of two Hammer Horror actors, Will began his musical exploration at an early age, closing down bars in London, playing the alto sax for a BBC1 game show, and gaining a degree in music. He quickly leaned toward composition and production, and has worked alongside artists as diverse as Roy Ayers, Steve Hackett, Mike And The Mechanics, Pussy Riot, Bishop Briggs, and Morcheeba. After releasing several records on UK dance labels Bates relocated to New York in 2003 and began composing music for commercials and founding pop-punk band The Rinse.
In 2009 Will started music production company Fall On Your Sword with producer Lucy Alper, named after his video art project which had become something of a sensation on Youtube with viral hits such as ‘Shatner Of The Mount.’
Since then, will had provided original scores for a myriad of filmmakers including acclaimed directors Mike Cahill, Alex Gibney and Craig Gillespie. His television credits include The Magicians, Looming Tower and Unbelievable
