Emmy-nominee Ruth Barrett is one of the UK’s most sought-after film and television composers. Her music is unmistakably original and eclectic, spanning feature films and high-end TV drama.
Ruth’s has recently scored upcoming Amazon series The Girlfriend, starring and directed by Robin Wright, Dark Wolf, the The Terminal List prequel starring Taylor Kitsch and Netflix's Old Guard 2, co-composed with Steffen Thum and starring Charlize Theron and Uma Thurmon. Other recent credits include Kathleen Jordan's The Decameron, The Terminal List directed by Antoine Fuqua, starring Chris Pratt and Law & Order: Organized Crime.
Her film credits include City of Tiny Lights and Legacy, both directed by Pete Travis (Dredd), Harry Brown (co-written with Martin Phipps), starring Michael Caine, Toast, directed by S.J Clarkson, and Paul Abbott's Twenty8k.
Further television work includes Bloodlands, The Sister, Sanditon, Bodyguard, Victoria and The Durrells. Other projects include David Hare’s Collateral starring Carey Mulligan, Critical, Love Nina starring Helen Bonham Carter, Wuthering Heights starring Tom Hardy, Wallander and Whitechapel.
Ruth studied composition at The Royal Academy of Music and read music at Cambridge University. She started her career composing for theatre and commercials before setting up a music production company, Rubykon, with composer and engineer Ruskin Williamson. Between them, they have worked on numerous documentaries, ad campaigns and short films.
