Bristol’s three-piece wych elm were formed back in 2017 when Caitlin Elliman and Jack Hitchins were attending college together. Throughout secondary school and college they found themselves sharing mutual interests such listening to Pixies and reading unusual literature. Together they create an atmosphere of Hitchins' feed-backing squalling guitars, heavy drum fills and punchy bass accompanied by Elliman’s haunting lyrics and howls. They conjure menacing and contemplative grungy indie rock with a touch of the macabre.

wych elm released their debut EP ‘Rat Blanket’ in 2019 through mysterious Bristol imprint Post Mortem Records in hand sewn cadaver bags. The release was an impactful collection of songs earning them slots at Green Man, Truck and 2000trees festivals.

The band self-released released their second EP ‘Rabbit Wench’ in September 2021 with the singles ‘Scolds Bridle’ and ‘Executioner’ receiving enthusiastic support from Jack Saunders on Radio 1, Steve Lamacq on BBC 6 Music and KEXP in the US. The success saw them join IDLES at a sold out O2 Academy Brixton in January 2022.

Latest EP ‘Field Crow’ features singles ‘Burnt At The Stake’ and ‘Virgin Mary’, which has rapidly amassed 400k streams on Spotify, their quickest growing EP yet. wych elm have recently taken trips to mainland Europe for Supersonic Blockparty Festival in Paris and Left of the Dial in Rotterdam, as well as their own successful headline UK tour to celebrate the release of ‘Field Crow’.
