Active on the music scene for over fifty years, Yves Lambert is one of the most iconic voices in Quebec’s traditional music. He has played a key role in bringing Quebec folk to the international stage — a rich heritage rooted in Celtic reels and French ballads, carried by infectious rhythms and mischievous storytelling.
In 1976, he founded La Bottine Souriante, a now-legendary band whose electrifying fusion of traditional and folk music sparked a cultural revival. The group earned numerous awards, including JUNO Awards, BBC honors, and multiple Félix Awards. Lambert’s charisma and creative force helped propel La Bottine to stages around the world over the course of 26 years.
In 2003, Yves Lambert set out on a new artistic path — first with the Bébert Orchestra, then with the Yves Lambert Trio, alongside long-time collaborators Olivier Rondeau and Tommy Gauthier.
As he celebrates 50 years of music in 2025, Lambert continues to reinvent himself. His latest album, Romance-Paradis (2024), blends gypsy jazz, R&B-inflected trad grooves, poetic waltzes, and theatrical flair. It’s a cinematic, unclassifiable journey — imagine Django Reinhardt crossing paths with Tom Waits in a cabaret deep in rural Quebec.
For lovers of traditional folk music, Yves Lambert is a living legend — with a twinkle in his eye and a groove in his step.
