Addis is an afrobeat, funk, jazz hybrid vessel for cosmic improvisational exploration within tight and driving beats.
Featuring an impressively fresh horn-section up front, all players improvise in their own right, contributing with distinct personal voices to the whole.
Beneath the surface lies an intensely swinging bass/guitar/key section, to provide rhythmically intertwined, well knit, cascading figures, a fundament for the harmony and a lot of interstellar sounds to inspire the listener, and bring the music to life.
All this resting on a solid base of irresistible rhythm from the strong, adventurous and ever grooving percussion and drum section.
Add in a violin here, a flute there, some curiosity, a stage and an audience, and AddisAbabaBand is just about certain to lift you off your feet!
Since 2010 this musical collective has played hundreds of concerts, and released two full length albums, a live album, two exclusive singles and an EP. They have performed at Danish festivals like Roskilde Festival, GrimFest, Copenhagen Jazzfestival and Aarhus Jazzfestival and have toured in Ghana and Holland. The band is currently working on new material for a third album.
