Aerial2012 (A Euphoric Ride Into Another Life) is an Atlanta-based band fusing electronica, rock, and jazz into an electrifying sound. Formed in 1999 from Atlanta’s underground scene, the group quickly gained a reputation for their high-energy performances and genre-bending creativity. Introduced by mutual friend Daniel Gresham, founding members Heath Cummings and Shawn Smith began collaborating after Shawn’s departure from Sputnik. Joined by Michaelangelo, Jeff Blackwell, and later Coleen, the band created their signature sound with the ethereal debut track “Messenger.”
A breakout moment came during an art party in Castleberry Hill, where Coleen improvised lyrics that became “Inertia.” The track caught the attention of producer Dallas Austin, who invited Aerial2012 to record at DARP Studios. “Inertia” later appeared alongside Madonna’s “Music” and in Stan Lee’s Flash Frames. Producer Ben Allen (Gnarls Barkley, Cee-Lo Green) produced “Messenger (Radio Mix)” and “Inertia (Freedom Mix)” for Chasing Thoughts.
Their song “Pound” was featured in Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines, while “Heavy Quiet” marked a remix collaboration with Heavy Mojo. Multiple-time Creative Loafing “Best of Atlanta” winners, Aerial2012 has shared stages with Fatboy Slim, BT, DJ Spooky, and Kool Keith. With over 5M global streams and fans in 100+ countries, Aerial2012 continues to push sonic boundaries, merging emotion, rhythm, and energy into a transcendent live experience.
