The Ahn Trio—originally formed by three Juilliard-trained Korean-American sisters, pianist Lucia Ahn, cellist Maria Ahn and violinist Angella Ahn—“classical revolutionaries” are known for their inventive cross-genre collaborations. Their debut Paris Rio (1995) earned critical acclaim, followed by award-winning releases on EMI Classics including Dvořák: Piano Trios (ECHO Award) and Ahn-Plugged (2000). They expanded their genre-bending approach with Groovebox (2002) and Lullaby for My Favorite Insomniac (2008) released on Sony BMG/RCA Red Seal, spent 26 weeks on the Billboard Classical Chart. That same year, they released a collaborative album with Czech band Tata Bojs, smetana (Warner Music).
The Trio has since released albums and EPs across EMI, Sony, Warner, and their own label, including BLUE (2017) and recent singles such as “Nuvole Bianche”(Einaudi) and “Candybox.”(Meijering). In 2023, Maria Ahn Music and 3AD co-commissioned new works honoring their late mother, including Dusan Bogdanović’s PRISMS – Six Songs by Sting. Iconic composer Laurie Spiegel wrote “Island of Peace,” for Lucia and Maria Ahn, which is released on the Ahn Trio Plays Laurie Spiegel EP (2025).
Celebrated for collaborations across dance, film, visual art, and pop, the Trio has performed worldwide—from the White House, Teatro Colón, Topkapi Palace and TED to Lincoln Center and the Musikverein.
