Angels of Libra are a Hamburg-based soul collective known for blending analog soul, 60s revue energy, and cinematic soundscapes. Formed after a spontaneous recording retreat in Denmark, founding
members Dennis Rux, Chris Haertel, David Nesselhauf, and Lucas Kochbeck began crafting instrumental grooves on vintage tape machines. Their sound took shape when Irish singer-songwriter Nathan Johnston added vocals to a track that would later name the group: „Angel of Libra“.
Since debuting in 2021 with the moody instrumental „Kung Fu Noir“, the Angels have released a string of acclaimed singles and collaborations, including work with Shawn Lee, Maiiah, Joél Davíd, and more.
Their 2022 debut album „Nathan Johnston & The Angels of Libra“ earned international praise, radio play across Europe, and recognition as ‘Album of the Year’ by 33RPM Magazine. 2023’s “Revelations” pushed their sound further into psychedelic soul, and electronic territory, featuring guests from across Europe and a strong analog aesthetic. That same year, the band toured Germany and Europe and dropped a joint album with Maiiah. In 2024, the collective expanded to 17 members, welcoming powerhouse vocalist Sarife, and releasing several new singles, and the vinyl-only instrumental project „Astromantics“. Now they prepare a new full-length album featuring Johnston and Sarife on vocals, and brass arrangements by Hans-Christian Stephan (MEUTE) – promising to return to the heart of soul with elegance, warmth and passion.
