Hailing from Reykjavík, Iceland, aYia are an alternative pop trio known for their singles "Ruins" and "Sparkle." Led by singer/songwriter and poet Ásta Fanney Sigurðardóttir, the group came together in 2016 when Ásta began collaborating with other musicians around Iceland with her own solo material. Realizing the chemistry between her and two of the producers she worked with, the three decided to form a band and got to work writing and recording. Crafting alluring and atmospheric soundscapes with euphoric synths, angelic vocals, and pulsating electro beats, the group gained attention after putting out their debut single "Water Plant" on Bedroom Community in 2016. In December of 2016 they showcased more of their material on the KEXP show. They went on to sporadically release more tracks while focusing on perfecting their live set -- with dates at Iceland Airwaves and Sónar Reykjavík festivals in 2017 -- and released the tracks "Ruins" and "Sparkle." 2018 saw the band open for Icelandic techno outfit GusGus on their European tour, as well as headlining three of their own shows in the Republic of Ireland. Their debut self-titled LP arrived later that year. ~ Rob Wacey, Rovi
