Baba Sissoko was born in Bamako (Mali), he is a Griot multi-instrumentalist, author and composer.
In the Baba compositions there is a great influence of Amadran, that is a repetitive and hypnotic musical structure typical from Mali by which, according to many researchers, blues was born
His style is peculiar: Baba loves to integrate melodies and rhythms of the Malian tradition (Bambara, Peul, Mandig e Sonrai) with the typical sounds of jazz and blues, creating a real world music.
He has released more than 20 albums under his own name and an impressive number of collaborations and compilations. During his long career he has collaborated and recorded with Damon Albarn, Art Ensemble of Chicago; Dee Dee Bridgewater; AfroCubism; Roberto Fonseca, Omar Sosa, Jovanotti, Enzo Avitabile, Antonello Salis, Fiorella Mannoia, Gegé Telesforo, Toumani Diabate, Oumou Sangare, Habib Koite, Ballake Sissoko and many others.He has been touring all over the world for over 25 years. He has received numerous awards, including the
"Track of the Year award" at the 2016 edition of the Gilles Peterson Worldwide Awards
March 2018 he was awarded the African Grammy "Obaland Music Awards" as best African jazz musician for the year 2018.
Today he is the leader of various musical groups.
