Sam & Julia spent summer days in a hot attic in Amsterdam, writing their debut album; Something Somewhere. Armed with a stack of tragicomic stories, a guitar and voices that were made for each other, they started turning memories into songs. Whether it’s Sam’s panic attack in the Prague Zoo or Julia’s umpteenth boring date, Something Somewhere is a record built on stories. Sam & Julia showcase a new sound; Americana crossing over into indie. Somewhere between Wilco’s soberness and Phoebe Bridgers’ melancholy.

Though the album feels like a product of its time, there are a few winks to the more traditional Americana that the duo played in their early years. The song Not Your Heart, for example, sounds like a classic duet in the tradition of Emmylou Harris and Gram Parsons. Other songs, like Easy, feel fresh and original. Maybe Something Somewhere isn’t just something somewhere after all. Its a milestone in the lives of Sam & Julia. An open-hearted coming of age story of a duo growing up together, falling down together, and getting back up together.

Sam (23) & Julia (26) met five years ago at a jam session in Amsterdam. The unique blend of their voices and characteristic style of songwriting make them a perfect match. The first EP, So Far, So Good (2019), was released on Tim Knol’s I Love My Label and put the duo on the map. They played many shows around the country, were heard on the radio and seen on TV.
