Before Russell Garcia and his wife, Gina Mauriello Garcia, sold most of their possessions and set sail on the Pacific with aims of proselytizing their Baha’i faith toislanders, the composer-arranger and singer-lyricist recorded a privately issued testament of their spiritual conviction with a choir of their peers. A 1966 LP documenting performances by the Southern California Baha’i Victory Chorus is the last mark left—on vinyl, anyway—by a man who’d spent the lion’s share of his career in network television and Hollywood recording studios, hobnobbing with some of the day’s biggest stars. It was the last record he made before leaving his worldly life behind.
