Bernard Butler is one of Britain's most original and influential guitarists, songwriters and producers. In 1989 he formed <a href="spotify:artist:6PHIK3kjWggLtVygsOtpqS" data-name="Suede">Suede</a> co-writing and playing on every recording until 1994, including the classic Mercury Prize winning No.1 debut "Suede" and “Dog Man Star” the defining moment in the band’s history.
He collaborated with David McAlmont on the anthemic ”Yes", “The Sound Of… <a href="spotify:artist:0BV7lpkyFTbzzML7DuUnpZ" data-name="McAlmont & Butler">McAlmont & Butler</a>”, then signed to Creation Records for two solo albums, the acclaimed "People Move On" and "Friends and Lovers”. A second McAlmont and Butler album and The Tears' "Here Come The Tears" followed. In 2005 he co-wrote and produced tracks from <a href="spotify:artist:37NqXwtb6nIEqRt4EJSoIO" data-name="Duffy">Duffy</a>'s 8 million-selling debut Rockferry, picking up a Brit Award and Grammy. He worked as a producer for The Libertines, Tricky, Black Kids, Kate Nash, Nerina Pallot, Teleman, The Cribs, James Morrison, Sam Lee and Paloma Faith and has played guitar on records by Bert Jansch, Aimee Mann, Bryan Ferry, Roy Orbison, Neneh Cherry, Pet Shop Boys and Ben Watt . His group Trans released 2 EPs followed by <a href="spotify:artist:4W1poTLCG6XjhBUVehcaMB" data-name="Mark Eitzel">Mark Eitzel</a>'s celebrated "Hey Mr Ferryman". Butler is a Songwriting Lecturer and Patron of the Bert Jansch Foundation. His debut "People Move On" was reissued in 2022 along with new material and live shows. In 2022 "For All Our Days That Tear The Heart" with jessie Buckley was nominated for a Mercury Prize. He then completed Sam Lee's "Songdreaming" and will release his first solo work in 25 years in 2023.
