A brilliant Southern soul singer, Florida's Big John Hamilton had a voice to match his name and practically defines the concept of obscurity. Hamilton cut eight solo 45s as well as a couple of duets with <a href="spotify:artist:6WkkYbcy0TGskWY0ovUxR5">Doris Allen</a> (including an interesting version of <a href="spotify:artist:2E9nO9Zav9FjjlFVVtMWdw">Buddy Miles</a>' "Them Changes") for Florida's Minaret Records label between 1967 and 1970, few of which had any impact outside of the region. Sundazed Records finally collected all of these on a single CD in 2006 as How Much Can a Man Take. The powerful title tune, from 1968, occasionally shows up on soul collections and is a true gem. ~ Steve Leggett, Rovi
