Hi, it's Sam Beebe—aka Black Bear. I’ve just released a new album! “the dreaming's what carries you through” is a deeply personal labor of love, in many directions.
The backstory: In 2006, I released my debut album, The Cinnamon Phase—a bedroom indie project, just making songs full-hearted with whatever I could get my hands on.
In 2007, I put BB into hibernation. I was young and wanted to see the world. I moved to Germany for a year, where I met my future wife, Viki Peitchev. Together we moved to London, then NYC, where I got an MFA in Creative Writing at NYU. I was hired to stay on as a professor, and taught there for 10 years. Meanwhile, by word of mouth, The Cinnamon Phase was snowballing itself a fervent fanbase.
Over those years, Viki and I both lost our fathers, but in 2017 we gained a son. Inspired by his birth, I made the first Black Bear track in a decade—“Morning in the Mountains.” I also put out an EP of previously unreleased songs called Uncovered Tracks
Moving to Germany in 2020 offered me the space and time for the dream of making music again. I emerged from hibernation with the single @Black Bear, Pts. I & II (The New Dawn) then set my sights on a new album, releasing several singles along the way. Viki and I began to collaborate—something we had always dreamed of doing.
All of the new tracks list @Night Falls in the credits—a new artist moniker under which I intend to release more music in the future.
Thanks for listening. Feel free to reach out.
