Merging a reverence for '50s rock & roll with a penchant for the ominous, Mister Heavenly bring together three indie rock talents into a unique musical triumvirate. Formed in 2010, the band features the talents of Man Man’s Ryan Kattner (also known as Honus Honus), Islands’ Nicholas Thorburn, and Modest Mouse and Shins drummer Joe Plummer. Combining the hopeful sound of early rock and doo wop with a dark vibe, the band created a buzz almost immediately while on tour with Passion Pit (along with occasional touring bassist Michael Cera). The band signed on with Sub Pop, and in late 2011 released its debut album, Out of Love. Over the next several years the Mister Heavenly project went dormant as its members devoted their time to other endeavors. In late 2017, the group finally completed their follow-up album and released Boxing the Moonlight in October of that year, this time on the Polyvinyl label. ~ Gregory Heaney, Rovi
