Kevin Gibbard and Sophie Landers produce a stark, modern incarnation of gothic post-punk, a sound built on primal drums, cascading guitar textures and melodic bass lines that pulse beneath lyrics of isolation and intensity. Their live shows are ritualistic: relentless, atmospheric and charged with a sense of menace and euphoria. Forging a sound both brutal and beautiful, Black Doldrums have carved out their own space in the shadows of the genre.
Their 2022 debut Dead Awake (Fuzz Club Records) drew critical praise from Rolling Stone, Uncut and Sonic Seducer, establishing them as torchbearers of the dark underground. In 2024, they returned with In Limerence - an album Louder Than War called “lush yet glacial...swelling with bursts of energy before dissolving into ethereal depths.” The album marks a bold evolution, one that found its live expression on a European arena tour in February 2025, supporting the legendary Archive.
Black Doldrums continue their rise, uncompromising, built on tension, texture and transcendence.
"“A mix of Gothic-rock and shoegaze sounds to die for” Rolling Stone
“A fierce combination of post-punk, reverb, drone and melody” Uncut
"Youthful and ambitious contemporary rock 'n' roll" - shindig!
“Awe-inspiring… Black Doldrums create transient and euphoric dark Post-Punk.” Louder Than War
