Named after Sarah Miller’s 2020 New Yorker essay, this Sydney-based group first made waves in 2021 with a string of jangly, hook-heavy singles. Their debut EP, Going South combines shoegaze, power pop, and surf-rock influences for a bright, summery sound that calls back to both the washed-out haze of bands like My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive and Lush. Tracks like Gone South and Former Life bottle soft-focus nostalgia into melodic, guitar-forward tunes that are equal parts blissful and bittersweet.
What was initially the brainchild of guitar-based songwriting duo Grace Ha and Brian Park has since expanded into a four-piece with bassist Cohen Bargas, and drummer Eduardo Guerra rounding out the band’s grand yet intimate flavor of pop rock.
On their latest project, Bridge Dog have continued to expand the horizons of their pop songwriting. Lead single Counterweight is one of the group’s most dramatic, multifaceted songs yet– and it’s also one of their catchiest. The dreamy distortion of recent standouts like Blue Flags and Working At It entwined with Ha’s gossamer vocal melodies is bound to appeal to fans of indie pop stunners like Japanese Breakfast and Alvvays.
