Clayhill was a British three-piece folk band comprising Ali Friend, Ted Barnes and vocalist Gavin Clark. Forming in 2001, Ted had wanted to work with former Sunhouse singer Gavin Clark for years so sent him the track, Glass Harmonica, which Gavin duly loved, soon writing lyrics and recording vocals for the song. Meanwhile, Ted and Ali were also working on music for Once Upon A Time In The Midlands, a movie by renegade Brit director Shane Meadows, who happened to be one of Gavin's oldest mates. The three were drawn together and began to write and record as a group.

The band signed to Eat Sleep Records shortly after, and over a period of 18 months wrote and recorded the six sad, subtle and evocative songs that would make up their debut mini-album, 'Cuban Green', releasing it in early 2004.

The band worked with Shane Meadows again on a short film titled ‘Northern Soul’ soundtracked by their songs, including the title track. The film starred Toby Kebbell as Mark Sherbet, a young man obsessed with American wrestling and went on to be broadcast on Channel 4 and included as a DVD extra on the Shane Meadows feature ‘Dead Man’s Shoes’.

Clayhill continued their involvement with Shane Meadows for many years, with him using their songs in his features including ‘Dead Mans Shoes’, ‘This is England’ and ‘Le Donc and Scor-zay-zee’.

Gavin Clark died in 2015, Ali and Ted continue to work together under various guises while also working on their own projects.
