This fashion-forward, high art-inspired outlier, Coca Vango, infuses sweeping melody and palpable emotion into the unpredictableand undeniablehip-hophinted at by his very name. “‘Coca’is a nickname that means Dope,” he explains. “I added ‘Vango’, since the last project I worked on in high school was on Vincent Van Gogh. He was a super amazing painter who used real emotion. If a girl did me wrong, I’d be sad and trip out. I had a really bad relationship, and that’s how I got into his art. He cut his ear off, because a woman left him. So, ‘Coca Vango’ is ‘Dope Art’—with a lot of emotion.
