Pianist and composer <a href="spotify:artist:0KwmB9C2BBuvgLRUpFFSWA" data-name="Joseph Lawrenson">Joseph Lawrenson</a> and singer-songwriter David Henshaw began writing together in 2008, joined shortly after by school friends Dan Fielding (now <a href="spotify:artist:5HOIBlqsM2laMM1TqVzIdN" data-name="That Is Good">That Is Good</a>) and <a href="spotify:artist:3XyAv5ndQJzky60hLgxS6X" data-name="Joe Semple">Joe Semple</a>, who began performing with them on the Leeds music scene - where they were quickly picked up by independent label Hide &amp; Seek Records.

Violinist <a href="spotify:artist:3BYW5hzX6hC81UoMXvmoGQ" data-name="D. Butler">D. Butler</a> and drummer Joe Montague soon joined and Dancing Years formed to record their first single <a href="spotify:album:6g1vW0XJxQ5tGZBYncrjCa" data-name="Here&#39;s to My Old Friends">Here&#39;s to My Old Friends</a> (2013) with James Kenosha (<a href="spotify:artist:0AUkXuvc92Zd0E9qKbkfsy" data-name="Pulled Apart By Horses">Pulled Apart By Horses</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:07FfkbljNIdl45Ijlh1aXS" data-name="RHODES">RHODES</a>),

After their first headline tour and favourable local radio coverage, the group became BBC 6 Music darlings – drawing comparisons to the <a href="spotify:artist:1GWV70Reko15eV2nHCm0bM" data-name="The Blue Nile">The Blue Nile</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:3Caot8EtHX6wLpNF2wRzS0" data-name="Glen Hansard">Glen Hansard</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:2cCUtGK9sDU2EoElnk0GNB" data-name="The National">The National</a> - with a run of releases on 7-inch vinyl championed by the likes of Steve Lemacq, Huw Stephens and Cerys Matthews.

The success of their debut EP <a href="spotify:album:2wT60N80uuhnuu8kYVRNOP" data-name="Learn to Kiss">Learn to Kiss</a>, produced by Colin Elliot (<a href="spotify:artist:75Kh0eqgzo9f43Dan1JzSV" data-name="Slow Club">Slow Club</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:1ZsnHGOLYFg8CAHQQBc1ut" data-name="Richard Hawley">Richard Hawley</a>), saw them playlisted by BBC Radio 1 with a BBC Introducing Stage set at Glastonbury in 2016. After embarking on their first headline the same tour the group disbanded, now only working collaboratively together occasionally on solo records.
