<a href="spotify:artist:5ioiWrUG3Eyd87RqFMbewh" data-name="Dusko Goykovich">Dusko Goykovich</a> (14 October 1931 – 5 April 2023) was a Serbian jazz trumpeter, composer, and band leader.
Born in Bosnia and Herzegovina, then part of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, Goykovich's musical talent emerged early. He studied at the Belgrade Music Academy and began playing trumpet in Dixieland bands. By 18, he had joined the Radio Belgrade big band. In 1956, he moved to West Germany and recorded with the Frankfurt Allstars, later playing with <a href="spotify:artist:7yCjnA8KgJWSx2UfIDaKDq" data-name="Kurt Edelhagen Orchestra">Kurt Edelhagen Orchestra</a>.
Goykovich collaborated with jazz legends like <a href="spotify:artist:3rxeQlsv0Sc2nyYaZ5W71T" data-name="Chet Baker">Chet Baker</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:0FMucZsEnCxs5pqBjHjIc8" data-name="Stan Getz">Stan Getz</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:3DuKJapiJ2AUvoIJq1ZJFb" data-name="Oscar Pettiford">Oscar Pettiford</a>. His 1958 performance at the Newport Jazz Festival gained him international recognition. In 1961, he earned a scholarship to study at Berklee College of Music.
In 1966, Goykovich recorded Swinging Macedonia in Cologne, featuring compositions inspired by Balkan music. He played with icons like <a href="spotify:artist:0kbYTNQb4Pb1rPbbaF0pT4" data-name="Miles Davis">Miles Davis</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:5RzjqfPS0Bu4bUMkyNNDpn" data-name="Dizzy Gillespie">Dizzy Gillespie</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:1VEzN9lxvG6KPR3QQGsebR" data-name="Sonny Rollins">Sonny Rollins</a>, and Gerry Mulligan. In 1986, Goykovich formed another orchestra. He performed at major events, including the 200th anniversary of Serbian statehood in 2004, and celebrated his 75th birthday with a grand Belgrade concert. His 2013 <a href="spotify:album:2WOxrjpx9aVHQaqDiZTTuG" data-name="The Brandenburg Concert">The Brandenburg Concert</a> was recorded live in Germany. Goykovich passed away in Munich on 5 April 2023 at age 91.
